I want to exit my SMSF but want to give to a manager/platform that allows me to also direct a proportion of the portfolio. ie i am happy to put 50% in their High growth portfolio but want to say "buy share xx" or "property yy" also in the fund. Is this possible or only in SMSF environment?

Jason, I am unaware of any platform that would allow for the direct ownership of a specific property. Certainly you can direct any percentage of your portfolio to a managed fund (high growth as per your example) and also purchase direct shares. There may be some restrictions on the direct share, such as it must be on the ASX 200 etc. Most platforms are very flexible with the type of share or managed fund or cash investments.

"Hi Jason, I am a financial planner that specialises in share investments. You may invest in your persoanl capacity, a trust or a SMSF. There are several platforms that will include shares in a SMSF. Lifespan Financial Planning Pty Ltd, the dealer group to which I belong, has a platform called Omniport that will allow, managed funds, direct property, shares and other investments to be reflected and reported on in a SMSF. Colonial First State and Hub 24 can do this too. Some of my clients use platforms and others don't; it depends on whether you are able to keep your documents organised. Obviously, platform fees will add to your overall costs. I will be able to provide specific advice if you require it. Kind regards Gail"

"A stockbroker/decent investment financial adviser would be able to help you out. You'd pay for it but it would be worthwhile. If you have a decent sized SMSF, I'm sure they'd be happy to take you on."
