- Best thing about being a financial adviser?
In my view, the best part of being a financial adviser is helping people to achieve their life goals. It’s a real privilege to be entrusted with people’s most important assets, and the opportunity to build long-standing relationships with clients is something that I find incredibly rewarding.
- One thing you would like to see improved or changed in the industry?
I’d like to see the industry move towards providing clients with more easily understood documents. I believe it’s really important for our clients fully understand the advice we’re giving them, as opposed to feeling like they’re drowning in litigious jargon.
- The areas on their finances or economy that worry your clients the most?
One of the main things that clients come to us for advice on is how to get into their dream homes. Another key concern is the uncertainty of stock market. While we have many clients who are looking to invest, starting out can come with some understandable nerves, so they’re looking for that extra bit of guidance to get off the ground.
- What's the strangest question a client has ever asked you?
I was once asked whether I was Italian – but with a name like Chris Browne and a thick Aussie accent, I certainly didn’t see that one coming!
- If you could get three things into consumers' heads about what advisers do or don't do what would they be?
a) We keep your face off A Current Affair! We help you to steer clear of get rich quick schemes that are likely to lead you down a rabbit hole, and point you towards smart decisions to help you reach your goals.
b) Unfortunately, we don’t have a crystal ball. Life is unpredictable, and so are finances. While we can’t predict the future, we’ll do everything we can to safeguard against it and protect what matters most.
c) The more information your financial adviser has, the better quality of advice they’ll be able to provide. Be honest and open about your circumstances, and you’ll get the very best advice tailored to your specific needs.
- How do you describe your job at BBQs?
I lead people to better financial and subsequently “life” outcomes, and that’s something that I’m incredibly passionate about.
- If you could make one simple change to you finances tomorrow what would it be?
If you haven’t already done so, I would encourage everyone to nominate a beneficiary on their superannuation fund. This is super important to ensure that if anything were to happen to you, your wishes will be respected.
- What tips would you give your best friend or mum about investing
As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day! Be patient with your financial plan. You might not see any drastic changes overnight, but with discipline and focus; you’ll be reaching your goals before you know it.
