Financial advisers are more likely to use exchange-traded funds for their self-managed super fund clients than self-directed investors, a new study has found, with advisers’ understanding of the diversification benefits of ETFs propelling the trend.

The Adviser Ratings 2022 Financial Advice Landscape Report observed a similar trend, with 44 per cent of adviser practices signalling an intent to increase their use of ETFs in 2022. The proportion of advisers not intending to use ETFs fell from 24 per cent in 2021 to 21 per cent in 2022.
