PPS Mutal has announced the opening of its second annual 2027 ‘Risk Practice of the Year Award,’ with the risk insurance business stating it aims to recognise “the practices and advisers navigating change and delivering excellence.”

The firm stated that during a time where quality risk advice is more important than ever, the award will help cast a spotlight qualifying that generate greater than 50 per cent of their annual new business revenue from life insurance-related advice, or, for multi-disciplinary practices, where risk advice makes up more than 50 per cent of new client recommendations.

This year’s panel of judges includes:

  • Angus Woods, managing director of Adviser Ratings
  • Sue Laing, technical director at The Risk Store Consulting
  • Peter Sobels, publisher of Riskinfo
  • Marc Fabris, digital consultant and founder of Risk Hub
  • Sue Viskovic, head of consulting at Vital Business Partners

PPS also highlighted that for the awards next year, nominations will be open to the wider industry, with clients also able to nominate their adviser’s risk practice. Colleagues and industry partners can also submit a practice they believe deserves recognition.

The company added all entrants will also receive access to an exclusive online workshop led by Sue Viskovic, head of consulting at Vital Business Partners, which will explore the characteristics of high-performing risk advice firms and provide practical strategies to improve business operations.

Speaking on his practice’s win in the 2026 addition of the awards, managing director of Personal Risk Professional Mark Everingham said: “The biggest change has been with our professional partners. This is a proud proof point for them when they’re talking to their clients that they’re referring to the practice of the year, not just another life insurance firm.”

“Our goal was to make the finals, which we were very proud to do. The insights you gain about your business through that process are really quite amazing,” he added.

To support business growth, the winner will also receive a marketing package comprising:

  • A technical SEO review and growth report from digital marketing agency Jaywing, aimed at improving online visibility and business performance.
  • Eight customised social media posts and a graphic design package to help promote the business’s services.
  • A media release developed and distributed by financial services communications firm Madden & Assoc.

The winning practice will also be invited to participate in a panel session at Riskinfocus 27.

Applications are now open and close on 14 September 2026.
