I started in the financial planning industry back in 1993, as a Life Agent with MLC. After 5 years I sold my St. Arnaud based business and moved to Bendigo, working as a Financial Planner at Bendigo Bank for around 13 years. During this time I mentored and supervised other financial planners and attained CFP® status in 2005.

In 2012, I decided to go out on my own and set up Fletcher & Butler Financial Planning with my wife (Melissa Butler), to be able to offer a more comprehensive and personalised service. I focus on retirement planning for those preparing for it and those ready to retire now.

In 2018 we got our own Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL), so we are not controlled or influenced by any third parties. We take full resposibility for all of the advice that we provide. It is also important that we know what we don't know, so we work closely with other professionals, such as solicitors and accountants, when necessary.

Prior to my Financial Planning career, I spent most of my adult life in various roles in the agricultural industry.

For most advice, we charge a flat fee which will be quoted in advance after talking to you about your needs and objectives.

For smaller jobs we may charge by the hour, but we will always provide you with an estimate in advance.

John is thoroughly professional in all aspects of the advice he gave us as retirement was upon us and no clue what to do. He guided us kindly and offered sound advice on how to manage our income and assets to provide us with a comfortable retirement, If any questions arose he was always available with answers that were explained in a way that we could understand.

Having previously worked with John in the Banking industry (where he was employed as a financial planner) and getting to know him over a number of years, I have found John to be very trusty worthy and through his studies and experience in financial planning his knowledge is extensive and well founded. John has a calm manner and will sit and listen to your objectives/goals and proved appropriate solutions based on your risk tolerance. Being an independent adviser, John is not attached to one particular product/fund and has an array of tools to assist in achieving the best results for you.
