Unlike many in the Financial Planning industry my focus has always been about delivering high quality advice to a smaller number of clients, not selling products to a large number of clients. You will come across some Financial Planners who have hundred's of clients, but the question you should ask is how many of those do they actually provide quality, individualised advice to? The general answer is less than 20% of their clients are seen on a regular basis. My aim is to maintain a client base of under 100 clients, who I can speak to regularly in order to ensure that they are receiving individualised advice tailored to their circumstances. This allows me amble time to provide not only advice to these clients, but more importantly education to ensure they actually understand the reasoning behind the advice. I believe that fear causes people to do things they otherwise wouldn't do such as selling good quality investments simply because of a downward movement in the market. I also believe that fear is the result of a lack of understanding and the best way to remove fear is to replace it with knowledge. This provision of education and knowledge, I believe allowed my clients to act rationally in times of turmoil (such as the GFC) and stick to their long term plans. More importantly it has allowed my retired clients to continue to receive the retirement income they aimed to achieve despite the GFC and falling Term Deposit rates. My focus is designing investment portfolios and strategies that will allow our clients to receive the income their require, when they need it. Remember, the only thing stopping you from retiring is a lack of passive income. My fees are based upon the amount of time and costs involved in providing advice to clients. My fees are not based on the amount of money that a client has available to invest.
