Shane started his journey in the financial planning industry back in the year 2000, as the Sydney Olympic Games were showcasing the Australian dream to the world, Shane was working hard with clients building plans and strategies designed to achieve their individual financial dreams.

Being a proud Novocastrian Shane named his business Steel City Financial Planners, a nod to the Newcastle steel town of old, and started building a team of professionals that are dedicated to providing great services and improving client outcomes for a better financial future.

Shane loves his sport and is a Life Member of the Waratah Mayfield District Cricket Club.

Locals Helping Locals – Shane along with wife Michelle have worked within the local community to help improve the lives of those less fortunate. Organising a number of charitable events over the years including the Steel City Financial Planners Autism Awareness Race Day which ran for seven years raising much needed funds and awareness of the challenges of living with an autism diagnosis.

In 2014 Shane & Michelle humbly received the “Above & Beyond” Award at the National Recognition Awards for their services to the community and the Aspect Hunter School for children with autism.

I have been dealing with Shane and the company for nearly 20 years now. Every year I have an appointment with Shane where he takes me through my Super in an easy to understand format. The staff there treat you like a friend every time you walk through the door. I highly recommend the company.

I have nothing but praise for the staff at Steel City Financial Planners. Each time I have spoken to them about problems I have encountered they have been so friendly, knowledgeable and understanding, especially over the past 18 months since my wife’s passing. They have filled out for me very complex forms for superannuation, life insurance claim and Centrelink which has saved me so much worry I feel so relaxed knowing my life savings are in such safe hands.

Since being with Mr Shane Finlay at Steel City, he has overseen our financial situation, steering us through our mortgage till it was paid out and now he is again giving us direction through our retirement years. Both Karen and myself have the utmost trust in Shane, as if it wasn't for him we would have been in extreme financial difficulty.

We also have found the other Staff members extremely helpful when we needed help, usually via the phone, at times we have spoken to Belinda and Leea and find them very helpful and professional.
