Steve Dobson

Steve is a Director and Financial Planner with Mal Dobson & Associates, commencing with the practice in 1999.

Steve holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Bachelor of Business (Financial Planning), Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Police Investigation) and an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning). Professional memberships include Fellow Chartered Financial Practitioner (FChFP) and AFP Member of the Financial Advice Association Australia, Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and Specialist Adviser of the SMSF Association.

Concurrent to the early development of Steve’s career as a financial planner, he was a WA Police Officer in uniform and detective positions. This public sector background benefits many of our government employee clients, with an understanding of government human resources, and untaxed superannuation schemes, such as GESB West State and Gold State.

Steve was awarded the 2022 Consultum Financial Adviser Proprietor of the Year and was a national finalist in the 2016 Association of Financial Advisers Excellence in Education Award.

Steve is an experienced non-executive Director, current board positions include Murdoch University Senate, the Tax Practitioners Board, World Police & Fire Games 2027, Greyhounds WA and Willetton Premier Cricket Club. Previous board member of the Small Business Development Corporation of WA for ten years and the Gaming and Wagering Commission of WA. Steve is a volunteer football coach and life member of Bullcreek Leeming Junior Football Club, life member of WA Police Football Club, Life Member of Jandakot Volunteer Bushfire Brigade, and a Justice of the Peace.
