I first received my Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 2007. I moved across to an Executive Role in Retail banking for 6 years, I wasn't enjoying it, especially during Covid. I decided to return to financial planning. I refreshed my education and skills. I completed a Postgraduate, the Professional Year and the FASEA exam. I'm all in for the remainder of my working life! It's great to be back working with clients getting ready to retire and those that are already retired. Being an adviser during the Global Financial Crisis was difficult but it taught me the importance of open and honest communication. I take the time to listen and understand how my clients make financial decisions in good times and bad!
Here's some things to consider as you prepare for retirement...
- Are you making the right contributions to super?
- When we have another inevitable market downturn, will you be comfortable to remain invested in your current investment or will you make a change?
- When will you qualify for the Age Pension? What level of assets or income can you have?
- When you pass, who will get your super? Will they have to pay tax?
And the biggest question of all… Are you ready? I tell my clients a good time to retire is when you're too busy to work.
