Growing up in a coastal country town in NSW has taught me many life lessons over the years. It's taught me the importance of being kind to others - That "country kid" attitude. It's taught me about ambition and exploring your passion (let's face it, great career opportunities in a country town are seldom in abundance)

It's also taught me to respect those around me - Remember the time when you walked down the street and said hello to complete strangers no matter who they were? I do. It's also taught me how lucky we are to live in such an opportunistic place where anyone can achieve anything, with enough effort and motivation anything is possible. My biggest challenge however, and also toughest lesson in life, was learning how to "break the chain" and feel successful. (though I've made plenty of mistakes along the way)

I am very fortunate to have been one of those to "break the chain" and I think my background has played a big role in the decisions I have made both professionally and personally. I believe in equality, I believe in fairness and giving those around you a "leg up" when they need it. I also believe that everyone should be given an opportunity to explore their passion and become successful.

What does "success" really mean though? To some this means more money, to others, perhaps being the best father they can be and always being "present" when they're at home. To some this means finishing a degree, pursuing a career they love or feeling a sense of financial comfort and providing security to their family - My point is, we are all different and success is something that is only measurable by the individual.

Being a financial adviser demands an understanding of people, more importantly it demands compassion, empathy, motivation, general "know how", and let's not forget a properly aligned moral compass!

I have had the pleasure of working with, and meeting many special people during my career as an adviser, people that share my passion but also help influence and shape my thinking to help me give others the same opportunity I was given.

As an adviser, I love nothing more than living vicariously through my clients and supporting them on their journey as they achieve success in the different aspects of their lives. Financial planning is not all about money, it's about feeling content and comfort in your decisions, it's about looking after family, it's about achieving happiness and above all, it's about feeling successful, whatever that may mean.

For as long as clients entrust me to be a part of their journey - I too will feel successful.
